High calorific value of natural gas
High calorific value ucv = low calorific value lcv + 3770 kJ = 37790 kJ (9027 kcal)
This value is obtained in the complete combustion of natural gas and oxygen. In the actual combustion process, natural gas is mixed with excess air. This increases the exhaust heat loss and limits the condensation of water vapor in the flue gas (such as the primary, secondary, and tertiary air generated in traditional combustion) due to the use of air mixing technology in Vaillan condensing boilers throughout the combustion process. Only less excess air is required. This allows for better condensation of water vapor in the flue gas.
dew point
The dew point defines the temperature at which the water vapor in the flue gas is converted into liquid water (condensed water), and then heat is released. The chart below shows the relationship between the condensation temperature (dew point) of water vapor in the flue gas and the ratio of excess air during the combustion of natural gas.
Thermal efficiency
Thermal efficiency = effective amount / usage amount
For traditional boilers, natural gas provides 11kWh of latent heat of vaporization for every 111kWh of high calorific value UCV provided. It is not used and is discharged in the form of water vapor in the flue gas. That is, the low calorific value LCV is 100kWh. That is, the effective heat of the boiler is 92kWh. Then the thermal efficiency of the boiler is: Η=92/100=92% (the heat used is calculated by the low calorific value).
▲ Non-condensing technology
For condensing boilers, natural gas, also provides high heating value UCV. equivalent to 11kWh. The flue gas cools at a temperature below the dew point, and part of the water vapor releases latent heat of vaporization in condensation. When the flue gas is cooled in the heat exchanger, some of the sensible heat in the flue gas is also recovered. Therefore, the effective heat of filtration is 92kWh, the sensible heat of recovery is 7kWh, and the latent heat of steam vaporization is 9kWh.
Then the thermal efficiency of the boiler is: Η=(92+7+9)/100=108% (the heat used is calculated by the low calorific value).
▲ Condensation technology
At 30% excess air , the water vapor in the Vaillan condensing boiler flue gas can be condensed at 55°C. The less excess air, the easier it is for the water vapor in the flue gas to reach the dew point temperature.
Parameters Affecting Condensing Boilers
There are many parameters that can affect whether a condensing boiler is in optimal use. Engineering needs must be considered when designing the output power of a heating system. When choosing a heating system, a heating system with a low supply /return water (30°C-40°C) temperature is beneficial to the condensation of the condensing boiler. Therefore, condensing boilers are especially suitable for low-temperature hot water floor heating systems.
Circulation of condensed water The condensed water produced by the boiler is slightly acidic (pH value 3-4), while the water in the domestic wastewater system is slightly alkaline (pH value 6.5-10). Therefore, the condensed water can be directly discharged into the domestic wastewater to play a neutralizing role. It is estimated that the condensing boiler can receive an average of 1000 to 1300 liters of water per year.
